Willie J. Smith accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of
thirteen at the Kindling Altar Baptist Church, Greenville, Mississippi
where his father, the late Reverend Walter L. Smith, Jr. was Pastor. He
accepted the call to proclaim the Word of God at the Antioch Baptist
Church of Oakland, California in 1973 under the pastoral leadership of
The Reverend Robert T. George. He was ordained there in 1977.
VOCATION |
Since assuming his responsibilities at Calvary in 1994, the congregation has
experienced solid growth in love, fellowship and evangelism. He has instituted
Ministerial Training for the “Sons of Calvary”, two annual Revivals, Foreign
Missions, Winter Bible Study and Wednesday Night Discipleship Classes. Pastor
Smith has also traveled internationally on various foreign mission fields. The
list includes Belize, Zimbabwe, Kenya and
the
Virgin Islands.
He is the visionary organizer of the King-Chavez Academy of Excellence Charter
School of San Diego on the Campus of Calvary Baptist Church; Bible Teacher
during “Black Church Development Week,” Glorieta, New Mexico. He is constantly
sought as a Revivalist and Conference Keynote speaker.
As a worship leader Pastor Smith believes that the Holy Spirit has the right to
alter the order of worship at any time. Being born in the Mississippi delta, he
brings the rich heritage of spiritual spontaneity to relevant focus in the
worship experience. Having been educated within the hallowed halls of Bishop
College, Dallas Texas, he is well acquainted with the disciplines and doctrines
of the classic theologians.
As a preacher......well, you’ll just have to hear him for yourself. He makes the
gospel truth so plain that young and old alike see themselves in the text.

Pastor Smith is married to Toni Annette (Robinson) Smith. He is the father of
three children, Willie Jr., Kelli and Kristian.
