Church Profile: What We Believe ... |
|
| I. OF THE SCRIPTURES
— We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely
inspired, and it is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction (II
Timothy 3:16). We believe that God makes Himself known to us through His
Word. We hold that the Holy Bible interprets itself and does not rely
upon extraneous sources for proof, or to reveal its contents. We,
further, believe that the Bible is infallible and that every word that
is contained therein is literally true. To paraphrase one of our unknown
forefathers, God said it; that settles it. As members of the New
Testament fellowship called Baptists, we are, above all, a people of the
Book of Books, the Holy Bible, the Scriptures. In the unity of the Godhead, there are three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; these three are equal in every divine perfection, and they execute distinct but harmonious responsibility in the great work of redemption. |

| II. OF GOD THE
FATHER We
believe that God the Father is the Creator of the
universe, for Genesis 1:1 states, "In the beginning,
God created the heaven and the earth." As Creator,
God is responsible for all elements formed and unformed.
He made it all. He did it all by Himself. III. OF JESUS CHRIST We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, for He Himself told us in St. John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ is present in both the Old and the New testaments as a Substitute for those He came to save. The Prophet Isaiah tells us of Jesus, the Christ: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed" (Isa. 53:5). IV. OF THE HOLY SPIRIT We believe that the Third Person of the Godhead is the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit is a person, not a mere energy or influence, but an intelligent person. In John 15:26, Jesus tells His believers, "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me." He tells us in John 14:26, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." V. OF SALVATION We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace; "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) Just as the need for a Saviour has been shown, a Saviour has been provided. The second part of Romans 6:23 tells man how that Saviour has been made available, for it says, "... but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." VI. OF BAPTISM AND THE LORDS SUPPER We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; we baptize to show our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour. Furthermore, we believe that baptism is a prerequisite for partaking of the Lords Supper, where members of the church, by sacred use of bread and the fruit of the vine, are to commemorate the undying love of Christ; this communion should always be preceded by solemn self-examination. |
