Saint John's Missionary Baptist Church

Feeding Ministry (Local Mission)

In the fall of 1986, St. John’s began addressing the need for on-site feeding through the Social Services Ministry of the church. Two days a week, a few members, under the direction of the late Sis. Aggie McIntosh, cooked and prepared the food at home and brought the meals to the kitchen, serving 8-10 people. As the program grew, more days were added.

Today, the kitchen at the Family Life Center operates six days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., using volunteers from St. John’s, several other area churches, and Cameron Campus Ministry. Now, between 1500-1800 meals are served each month. This includes meals sent to shut-ins five days per week.

Although geared toward homeless people or those in need, anyone may come and eat a meal. There is a food pantry that operates in conjunction with the Feeding Program. Food boxes are given to needy families when requested. The program is funded by the church and by donations from the local community and supporters from across the nation and abroad. Presently, this ministry is headed by Sis. Helen Shackleford.

On behalf of the Lawton-Fort Sill community, we at St. John's wish to thank those who have so graciously chosen to make contributions to the Feeding Ministry. Your support enables us to continue serving God's people.
